The Game Box Apeldoorn

Unfortunately, the manager at the Apeldoorn location was rude, dismissive, and did not honor the free vouchers for games that was given to us by his colleague that same evening. His colleague is actually another manager from a different location who explained that the vouchers were valid and are there to engage customers to celebrate the reopening of the location. While the current Apeldoorn manager did not want to even consider the free vouchers for games or the game box gift, he only offered a Fanta slushy drink not even offering further information or explanation. Very disappointing experience overall. If anyone from management is open for constructive feedback, I wish for better communication and customer service in the future.

I'm updating my review for October 2023: Lots of improvements here over the past months/year. Game Box Apeldoorn now has a modern StepManiax cabinet with nice volume! They've also started selling drinks too, including Monster Energy, which is becoming difficult to find in the Netherlands, so props to them for both having my favourite energy drink and getting a new great game! The button on the Pump It Up machine has also been fixed since my original review, but this game is still too quiet. But I find little reason to play it now anyway, compared with StepManiax. Original Review in 2021 (3 stars): I go regularly on weekends to play Pump It Up Pro. This game is the only reason I go since the Taiko no Tatsujin machine got moved to Almere. The Game Box is great value when taking advantage of the "€100 + 100% Bonus + 20 free games" offer, as long as you're willing to spend that much, so I can't fault it on value for money. The problem I have with The Game Box is that the staff don't seem to care. The volume on Pump It Up Pro is drowned out by the other games and the general ambient music, but the staff just shrug their shoulders and make no attempt to adjust it. Seems like they don't understand the importance of music in a music rhythm game! Worse still, one of the buttons on the Player 1 (left) side is recently broken, but they ignored my message on Facebook and continue to let players just fail songs and waste their credit because most players don't know that it's broken! I have the feeling that The Game Box is not run by arcade/gaming enthusiasts; it feels like a place just for families and kids, where decent games like Pump It Up and Taiko are just anomalies that slipped through their filters.
